I found this photo of my grandfather today - taken on the reservation in North Dakota. He’s in the headdress, flanked by my father (on his left) who had recently joined the Navy in his teens, and my uncle who joined the Army. My father’s stance seems to suggest he’s ready for a fight . He’s a lawyer, so I guess he’s always ready for a fight.

From there I logged onto one of those ancestry sites and found images of my great grandparents – Mink and Blackhawk.

Died: 1929

Black Hawk
Born: 1860
Died: 1910
